Grafik Aircraft

Behind the Cockpit:
The Story of Grafik Aircraft

Grafik Aircraft began with Nick, a graphic designer with a unique approach to combining aviation and minimalist design. His journey started with a client project for a British aircraft manufacturer, where he was tasked with creating a Twitter campaign. Using creative keyboard symbols, Nick distilled iconic aircraft like the Typhoon, Tornado, and Spitfire into recognisable, simplified designs that gained traction and sparked engagement. This experience drew him into the world of aviation and set him on a path to create graphic artwork that celebrates the beauty of aircraft.

Twitter art created to boost engagement and encourage visitors to stop by the client’s stand at RIAT, featuring the Typhoon, Tornado, and Spitfire.

Mission Objective:
Artistic Vision & Process

Grafik Aircraft creates minimalist screen prints that celebrate the engineering and symbolism of military aircraft, using Nick’s background in logo design to simplify complex forms into striking silhouettes. Each print features metallic silver ink to evoke the industrial feel of aircraft aluminium, while subtle Morse code typography connects modern design with aviation’s history, pushing the boundaries of aviation art.

Screenprint Process: A special commission for RAF Odiham and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, this limited edition MH-47G artwork was created to commemorate Ex DARK LIGHTNING 24. The screenprinting process brings the artwork to life.

Flight Record:
Key Achievements

A defining moment for Grafik Aircraft came when Nick was asked by the RAF Typhoon Display Team to create a unique emblem in his signature style, now used in the team’s marketing. This milestone highlighted Nick’s talent for creating powerful imagery that resonates with the aviation community.

It all began, however, with RAF Typhoon Display Pilot, Flight Lieutenant Noel Rees, who proudly held up one of Nick’s artworks in front of the aircraft itself. This recognition showcased Nick’s skill but also marked the start of a lasting relationship with the RAF Typhoon Display Team, opening the door to future collaborations.

Target Lock:
Engaging the Aviation Community

Grafik Aircraft has had the privilege of working with military pilots, aviation personnel, and aviation enthusiasts. It’s an honour to see this artwork displayed in homes and workplaces, reflecting the shared love of aviation and artistry that unites us all.

Reproducing these screen prints is a detailed and resource-intensive process. The support of my Kickstarter backers played a crucial role in bringing this vision to life. Without their belief and commitment, Grafik Aircraft would never have taken off. For that, I am endlessly grateful.

Next Gen:
The Future of Grafik Aircraft
